Ms. Sealy is a Native of Brooklyn, NY, and relocated to Miami, Florida, with her family. At the age of 15, Ms. Sealy became a single mother and encountered many teenage parent challenges. During this time, Ms. Sealy met a social worker that helped support, encourage, motivate, and influence her future hopes of giving back. After graduating from high school, she attended Florida International University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work. While in college, she often felt a desire to seek emotional support services to balance motherhood, being a student, and being overwhelmed by life as a whole. She knew of an on-campus counseling center but was frightened by entering an unfamiliar, taboo space; not knowing what to say or ask. College life as a young parent was challenging, but without knowing how to access help, she had to push through in silence.
Nevertheless, Ms. Sealy always felt a strong desire to give back. What started as Ms. Sealy’s interest would later become her passion and dedication to give back to a community that earlier had helped her on her journey. Ms. Sealy decided that not only did she want to help children, families, and college students, she also wanted to be a role model to her son. Thus, in 2000, Ms. Sealy began her career in Social Work. Today, she works with targeted populations to including LGBTQ population, elderly adults, diverse families, abused and neglected children, at-risk youth, adolescents within the juvenile justice system, homeless youth, independent young adults, and college students, to name a few.
